Overview

Shalom!

Enjoy the nice patios and alleyways of the Jewish Quarter at the same time as you discover the history of medieval Jews.

Girona’s Jewish Quarter is one of the best well-preserved Jewish quarters in Spain.

A nice stroll up and down through the cobbled streets of the “Call” or Jewish Quarter in Catalan will get us to know the neighborhood where the Jewish people lived for six centuries.

We will uncover where the old synagogues were located, the layout of the Call and the life of some families like Jucef Ravaya, administrator of Girona and Besalú, who served King Peter the Great and was royal treasurer.

Girona is the city where the great Cabalist and Rabbi Mosse ben Nahman called “the Ramban” was born. Furthermore, he was a poet, doctor and Rabbi of Catalunya.

Jewish History Museum

The Museum is located at the very heart of the Jewish Quarter.

Inside the museum we can see : the Mikveh. This is the last mikveh of Girona’s Jewish community, in use until 1492. This purification bath was found in 2014.

The visit to this museum permits us to see the “matsevot” or gravestones with Hebrew inscriptions coming from Montjuïc cemetery. It also contains medieval documents like one quetuba and notary papers.

The tour includes the entrance fee to this museum.
